Violence escalates in Karachi; 31 killed



Violence escalates in Karachi; 31 killed KARACHI: Bloodshed continues in the metropolis and at least 31 people have been killed since midnight, Geo News reported.

Firing continues and bodies are being recovered from different areas of the city. According to the Police, bodies have been recovered from Baldia Town, Lee Market, Sher Shah, Mari Pur, Manghopir,and several other areas. The bodies recovered bore marks of torture and were riddled with bullets. Police officials say there were small notes recovered from the pockets of the deceased, saying, "want war or peace or should we send more".

Four bodies were recovered underneath the Lasbela Bridge while four bodies in Sher Shah were recovered from a car belonging to a mobile phone company. Two of those killed were employees of the mobile phone company and were identified as Javed and Imran

In Baldia town, one of the dead was identified as station officer Miran Naka fire station Liaquat Zafar Farooqui. Fire brigade officials said that Zafar Farooqui was abducted along with fireman Muhammad Irfan from Miran Naka fire station.

The body of the head constable of the Navy Town police station was also recovered who had left to get iftari on Wednesday and not returned.

In another incident in Badia town, unidentified armed men killed a man and injured four others. Sporadic firing continues in Baldia town no.4 area. Armed men also opened fire at a police station, while a rocket was fired from Baldia town no.3.

A hand grenade was hurled near a park located in the old city area.

A body of an unidentified person was also recovered from Manghopir, while two bodies were recovered from Garden area.

On Wednesday, firing, hand grenade and rocket attacks took place in several areas of the city. 16 including a former PPP MNA, Waja Karim Dad were killed. Following this violence erupted in several areas of the city.
