Cement prices last year recorded 27pc surge KARACHI: The average price of cement during the previous year recorded 27 percent surge, shooting per bag price beyond Rs400, Geo News reported.

Federal Bureau of Statistics said that the average price of cement, which was Rs321 per bag in September 2010, has soared beyond Rs410 per bag in September current year.

The statistics made available show that the lowest Karachi cement price pegged at Rs378 per bag, while in Quetta per bag price has swelled up to Rs450, as only in last it recorded a sharp rise by Rs14 per bag.

Analysts attributed cement price hikes to higher cost of production due to international surge in coal price and constant rise in electricity tariff within the country.
