MQM-H chief Afaq Ahmad not to be released: Sindh govt KARACHI: The Sindh government under MPO has decided that Mohajir Quami Movement (MQM-H) chairman Afaq Ahmad will not be released from the district jail Malir, Geo News reported.

According to the notification of the home department Ahmad will remain in prison for one more month. The notification further states that his release could hamper peace in Karachi.

Earlier the Sindh High Court had ordered the release of Ahmad on bail in the Atiq-ur-Rehman murder case. This was the last case against the MQM-H chairman.

Ahmad was booked in the murder case of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist Atiq-ur-Rehman by the Nabi Bux police in June 2009, and the trial court had rejected the acquittal plea of the applicant.

During proceedings his counsel Mohammad Farooq contended before the court that no evidence against the MQM-H chief was found by the police and his client had nothing to do with the offence because he had been in jail since April 2004, and a case was registered on June 20, 2009.
