Twitter index: St George's Day, ZX Spectrum's 30th anniversary


Tweeps are celebrating St George’s Day on Monday, April 23, and telling their followers to eat and drink traditional English fare and to “go slay a dragon” to mark the annual event.
“Happy St George's Day to my English comrades. This should be a public holiday, and dragon slaying should be part of the day's celebrations,” read tweets.

Microbloggers are reminding their followers that “St George is also a patron saint of Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Lithuania and Portugal.”

St George’s Day is also celebrated in Catalonia, where it is known as “La Diada de Sant Jordi.” Tweeps are posting about the day with the hashtag “#santjordi” and the term Jordis and telling their followers about their tradition of offering a book and a rose to a loved one.

People living in Turkey celebrate National Sovereignty and Children’s Day (“Nisan Ulusal Egemenlik”) on April 23.

Twitter’s geekier members are marking the 30th anniversary of the British 8-bit personal computer ZX Spectrum today. Google has created an 8-bit style doodle that incorporates both St George’s Day and ZX Spectrum’s 30th anniversary and the company is featuring it on thehttp://www.google.co.uk/ homepage
